ABOUT THE BOOK: Nowadays there is increased environmental awareness in all disciplines of life, the reader will find in this book an approach to the various aspects of the environmental sciences and problems from an ecological point of view. I have consciously minimized jargon, hopefully without sacrificing accuracy. I have tried my best to present ecology as an interesting and dynamic subject. This book attempts to explain the basic or fundamental idea of ecology in such a way that the subject matter is easily absorbed by both graduate and post-gradual biology students. Many books on Ecology are available but most of those do not satisfy the appetite of the new learners to understand the subject moreover some of those books are beyond the reach of the common students of colleges and universities. I hope this book will be useful to a diversity of people in several ways. First, it can be effective as a textbook for theory and laboratory classes. Second, it may help as a guidebook for different competitive examinations like U.P.S.C., N.E.T. for Botany, Zoology, and Life science candidates. Third, it may serve as a companion to ecological researchers. To hope that the book accomplishes all that is to be ambitiously optimistic, and to actually attain those goals is next to impossible.
