ABOUT THE BOOK: Polymers are very high molecular weight compounds usually in the form of long chain molecules made of repeating units. Natural polymers like jute, cotton, starches, rubber, etc. are important for economic reasons. Synthetic polymers are the third generation of petrochemicals which are commonly known as rubbers, plastics, and fibers. Apparently they are different, but all of them consist of long chain polymer molecules. The differences appear due to the difference in the degree of intermolecular bonding forces amongst the polymer chains. They are important for industrial and economic growth. This knowledge-based volume is specially designed for students studying B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Chemistry / Polymer Chemistry / Polymer Science and Technology. It is written according to the syllabi of Indian Universities as per the NEP syllabus. Moreover, the book will be helpful to the students pursuing Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences & Engineering at the B.E. / B.Tech. and M.E. / M.Tech. levels. The book contains fifteen chapters which describe the classification and nomenclature of polymers, mechanisms, kinetics of polymerization, techniques of polymerization, manufacture, structure, properties, and applications of natural and synthetic polymers including high performance and functional polymers.
