ABOUT THE BOOK

The book is the outcome of more than 40 years of teaching experience of the author and is divided into seven chapters like that of Volume I. The fundamental principles of crystal chemistry at the elementary level with minimum descriptive detail comprises Chapter 8. The basic concept of radius ratio rules for different coordination numbers has also been discussed in this chapter.

The voluminous one is Chapter 9 wherein the largest number of solved problems have been incorporated. In this chapter elaborate discussion of various aspects of radioactivity and nuclear chemistry have been made with an emphasis on nuclear disaster including the recent Fukushima- Daiichi disaster. This chapter is followed by magnetochemistry wherein some basic terminology
of elementary magnetism has been discussed. Here Curie equation is established by some integration method.

The next Chapter 11 is the biological inorganic chemistry which has a vast domain in the plant and animal kingdom but the discussion is restricted in the B.Sc. (Hons.) curricula of different universities. Chapter 12 is environmental chemistry which is an interdisciplinary subject and discussion only been made on some basic aspects of water and air pollution. The next important chapter is treatment of analytical data. Here statistical evaluation of different analytical data has been incorporated with several solved questions of B.U. and C.U. The last Chapter 14 is symmetry and group theory wherein an elementary discussion of the subject has been made.

In all the chapters some questions of NET, SSC, etc. are also solved. Important information can also be obtained from the appendices (I-VI) at the end of the book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dr. Sankar Prosad Banerjee did his M.Sc. with specialisation in Inorganic Chemistry in 1969 from The University of Burdwan. He joined the same university as a full-time Research Scholar in 1971 and received his Ph.D. degree in 1977 under the supervision of Prof. R. L. Dutta. He has published several research papers and a review article in the area of Coordination Chemistry. He joined the Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan in July 1973 as a lecturer and served the college till his retirement in January 2008 from the position of Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry (U.G. and P.G.). Presently the author is associated with teaching Postgraduate students of Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan.
