ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. Jyotirmoy Sen completed his schooling at Sodepur High School and Banga High School. He attended Presidency College in 1970 and University of Calcutta in 1980. His Ph.D. thesis was on 'Land Utilisation and Population Distribution in the Jalangi Basin'. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Calcutta. He has taught at Malda Women's College, Silguri College, and North Bengal St. Xavier's College (Rajganj). He is an Honourary Professor of the Geography Department (P.G.) at Silguri College. He is also a counseller at Netaji Subhas Open University. He has published over 40 research papers and participated in 5 research projects. His expertise played an important part in the 'Glossary of Pan-Indian Terms: Human Geography, Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, 1988'.
